Solve : Aah *censored* This Computer!! Help!!!?

Answer»

I THOUGHT i had fixed my Pc cause it was running so slow due to build up of dust so i decided (BAD decision) to use a vacuum to suck up all the dust. Now its slower than ever. I open windows media which takes about 30 seconds and even when i close a program it closes from top to bottom ie. you see the program close slowly from the top of the screen to the bottom. Is there anything at all i can do to fix this problem or have i stuffed it up?Which OS are you using? What are the system specifications like? Sounds like you are short on RAM.Its def a dodgy Pc, im using XP with 256MB ram and a P3 500 processor, i just cant afford a new Pc at the moment. The thing that confuses me is it was working great then all of a sudden it started going really slow and ive RUN every check imaginable. My next step was going to be a full format and start again. I have unlimited broadband so i do download a *censored* of a lot. Any suggestions?run a virus scan......disable system restore.....delete internet history/cookies files............sosftware program adaware may help you......How did you format? Did you use the XP CD and format directly to NTFS?

If you run chkdsk in a command WINDOW do you see a line which reads:

4096 bytes in each allocation unit

Or does it read 512 ?It doesnt say, it just says Warning F Paramater not specified running in read only mode. Do having a lot of programs effect how your computer runs even if im not using them?Go to download dot com, get ad-aware, spybot S&D and run them if you can.  Also, go into msconfig, go to the startup tab, and uncheck the processes that you KNOW are not crucial.  Like MSN Messenger, Office, etc.  Also, there is a little app called cleancache that you can get at download as well that will clean up a lot of garbage.  CCleaner will also do that and, and I would run CCleaner first.  Let me know what happens after you do all of this.  Make sure you run updates for Spybot and Ad-Aware first.

Cheers.
