I am one of those people that just received a terrible shock while
trying to restore a complete hard drive using MS Backup. I am using a Gateway computer that has a restore disk. This disk will
WIPE out all disk partitioning from Partition Magic and will GENERALLY lock up or deny access to the hard drive while trying to
restore or copy over files using MS Backup from an External Hard Drive because these partitions were created after the fact. Ok, fool me once!

Is there a program that will 100 % copy: Partitions, system settings, mail listings, printers, in short everything that’s on the said drive and do all of this in spite of a Gateway restore disk, considering that we will now LEAVE the hard drive un-partitioned and in tact? I would be using an 80Gig External Hard Drive to accomplish this task.


Can anyone help?

Highly recommended: Acronis True ImageYes, Norton ghost would allow you to completed image your Disk to a new Disk.

or you could set up a Raid Mirror, that would keep two disk Synced at all time's (The problem here is they are still in the same computer and could both fail dude to Lightning Heat Fire or stupid)

There are many Imaging programs available , Boot IT NG will let you copy a HDD to a New one.

Have deceided to give Acronis True Image a try. A free download for 15 days and even if it doesn't work........................we will hold a good thought.

Promise to you all on this listed posted as to results positive or negative.

I have heard of Ghost but this program it suppose to be rated very high. The reload disk I mentioned has a Ghost screen that comes up when it loads..........compatibility issues? We SHALL see. Thanks again to you both.

Acronis Image 9.0 does it work? YOU BET IT DOES!

Can you imagine? A program that actually does what it says it can do!

Restored Hard Disk and ALL applications including printers and custom settings.
Time from Gateway Disk reloads to reloading Acronis, after a Restore disk re-load was 35 minutes. Its also important to note that all of this was accomplished with the free 15 day trial version.

Although the Hard Drive was restored in it’s 200 Gig entirely, this program gives every indication that it will also restore any Partitions that were created and included in your backup copy, I believe them. Buying this one for sure.

Those with experience in imaging drives like True Image. Indeed iot does what it claims to do very well.
