Solve : 40 gb new computer?

Answer»

Hey,
Im thinking about getting a new computer. Its got 40 gb hardrive and 1gb ddr ram... i would be using ubuntu for the operating system, and i probably wont have any games on it, is 40 gb enough (for music, videos, mozzila and i guess just other stuff)? how many programs could i have?
thanksThat should be okay, you could use an external drive for some storage. No, 40Gb is not enough for an operating system plus storage of music and videos. Both answers above are right and wrong. See, we can't actually answer this question for you because we have no IDEA how many FILES/programs you have, and we especially have no idea how many you intend to put on your computer. Even if we did, we have no idea what size they will all be. You could easily install 500 small programs or only 15 large ones. Get what I'm saying? It all depends on your personal usage.

For me, 40 GB is nothing. My music alone takes up more than double that. I have about 1 TB (1000 GB) and I still don't have enough space for all of my files (I have to store some things externally). Of course, I also have hundreds of games, programs, and other media files on my computer. Personally, I would suggest having no less than 320 GB (you could always get an external hard drive).

Of course, if you are mostly going to use it for BROWSING the internet and listening to music, then 40 GB is probably enough.I have a 38GB HDD and it works for me...I'd like a bigger hard drive, but then again, I'd also like to have a lot of NICE things.
