Hi Flaming and Merlin_2
Thanks a million for immediate response.
I will try the URL.
This is a Dell lap top with only one USB port. I can only use one USB device at a time.

canon USB Printer, IOmega CD-RW drive, occassionally 2megaPix Dig camera

Thanks & regards
MaroonedHi Flaming and Merlin_2

I have solved the problem of my CD-RW (USB).
after long hours of trial and errors realised the following:

Do not unmount the USB device before  stopping the device.

Op systems from 98SE onwards have drivers for almost all the Cd, CD-RWs. Let the windows load the drivers. Do not use the Iomega ZIP drive installation disk especially if you are going to load later versions of
ECCD. There are conflict between the older drivers and newer drivers.
This corrupts the drivers.

So the first thing I learned is not to use the manufacturers installation Disc. There are registry hacks etc I learned during this process which are sometimes risky. So the EASIEST way now.

Copy the important files. I used a lapLink and transferred my files to DESK top.

Reformatted disk, reloaded WinME and allowed the system to load drivers for USB CDRW.

Installed later version of ECCD burning software and everyting is OK now.

This took me much less time and Internet cost.

There may be better ways but I have got back my CDRW functional again this way.

Thanks for your help and time

Regards, Marooned

This is an excellent Forum and I will continue to use it
