Solve : 137 gig limitation? |
|
Answer» I am at a loss. I have a new Maxtor 300 gig drive im trying to install in my computer. I have done this before on my Asus AMD systems with no problem. But i am INSTALLING it onto an Asus Intel based system and i dont know why im having trouble. this is just another reason why i hate intel. I don't follow that logic, but XP with SP2 should be able to do this. I don't understand the 300 gig drive mentioned. Is that an IDE, and you're using a SATA to IDE adapter, and what?yeah thats because i have XP SP1. ACTUALLY I havent had this problem with my AMD systems, they loaded with SP1 no problem. Im not sure i understand what your saying about the IDE setup. its a Maxtor 300 gig drive. I tried installing it into the primary IDE and then i bought thePCI card and tried that. but both didnt work. At first i THOUGHT i had a jumper problem, because i ran into that problem before. Jumpers make a difference. But whenever i build a system i always make sure i use only 1 drive so there is no mix up. Ok disregard the PCI adapter. im going to concentrate on the primary IDE mobo connection. You shouldn't need that anyway. Why no SP2?rrsg1...... Could you please post the exact model number of the maxtor drive your having issues with . I know this has been asked before by GX1_Man , but why on earth don't you have SP2 installed ....or don't you have a legal copy of XP running ? dl65 Sure thing, my hard drive is an OEM from newegg. The model number is 6L300R0. It a Maxtor 300 gig. I am also using an OEM Windows XP that i bought awhile ago. I know its been awhile because it has SP1. I have a seperate cd, sent to me from Microsoft that has SP2 on it, which i usually install seperately after the OS has been installed. I apologize if i wasnt clear RichHow olds the computer?, Have you upgraded the bios recently? Also SP2 needs to be installed and it could be that windows xp SP1 doesn't recongnise anything above 137gb. |
