Answer» Sodium is highly reactive metal. It can catch fire if kept it open.Hence to protect it and to prevent accidental fire ? it is stored under kerosene oil. Highly explosive gases which react with o2 and co2 and catch fire easily. Because they are highly reactive metals Sodium and potassium are kept immersed in kerosene because if it is kept open it can explosively react with oxygen , carbon dioxide and moisture present in the air , they are reactive and catch fire eassily Because they react so vigorously with oxygen that it catches fire when kept in the open. Hence, to protect accidental fires, they are kept in kerosene oil. |
