Show that 30, 40, 45, 60 are in proportion.

Four numbers a, b, c, d are said to be in proportion, if a: b = c: d we write a: b:: c: d.

Let,

a = 30, b = 40, c = 45, d = 60,

Then,

Product of extremes = (30 × 60) = 1800

Product of means = (40 × 45) = 1800

∴ Product of extremes = product of means

Hence, 30, 40, 45, 60 are in proportion.
