Question 7.3: A 44 mH inductor is connected to 220 V, 50 Hz ac supply. Determine the rms value of the current in the circuit.Class 12 - Physics - Alternating Current Alternating Current Page-266

Answer»

RMS CURRENT is given by I_V=\frac{E_v}{X_L}
here, I_v is the RMS VALUE of current in CIRCUIT.
E_v is the voltage supply by BATTERY e.g., E_v=220V
and X_L is the resistance of inductor,
e.g., X_L=2\pi\nu L
here v is the frequency and L is inductance of inductor.e.g., XL = 2π × 50 × 44 × 10^-3 ohm

now, Iv = 220/(2π × 50 × 44 × 10^-3) = 15.9A
