Question 7.2: (a) The peak voltage of an ac supply is 300 V. What is the rms voltage? (b) The rms value of current in an ac circuit is 10 A. What is the peak current?Class 12 - Physics - Alternating Current Alternating Current Page-266

Answer»

(a) The peak value of a.c SUPPLY is given by 300V.
e.g.,E_0=300V.so, RMS voue of voltage, E_v=\frac{E_0}{\sqrt{2}}
here, Ev is rms voltage.
now, Ev = 300/√2 = 150√2 = 212.1V

(b) Here, RMS value of current in a.c CIRCUIT is 10A.e.g., Iv = 10A
THUS, the peak current,I_0=\sqrt{2}I_v
so, I_0=√2 × 10 = 14.14 A
