Let the points be A (2,k-3) and B (4,-7).

The equation of the line AB is

(x-2)/(4–2) =(y-k+3)/(-7-k+3), or

(x-2)/2 = (y-k+3)/(-4-k)

(x-2)(-4-k) = 2(y-k+3), or

-4x+8-xk+2k = 2y-2k+6, or

2y = -x(4+k)+4k+2, or

y = (-4-k)x/2 + 2k+1

The slope of the line AB = (-4-k)/2 = 3, or

-4-k = 6, or

k = -10.
