1.

[Pt(NH 3)Cl(NO 2)] is named as DiamineChloridoNitrito-N-Platinum(II)   but NO2  exists in both anion group and cation group... If we consider it in the case of cation group then the name should be written as Nitronium instead of Nitrito-N-.....  But why it is written as Nitrito-N-  in all the cases.....????

Answer» An ambidentate ligand, nitrite has the potential to coordinate via the N- (nitro) or O- (nitrito) atoms in a manner that can direct its reactivity. We define the name according to its linkage in such groups, not on the basis of anion and cation.

The NO2 ligates with the central atom through the nitrogen atom and thus is called diammine.....nitrito-N-Platinum.
