Smoking: A Silent Killer

There is famous saying about smoking which says, “Smokersdon’t grow old…they die young…” The paradox about smoking is beyond the ken ofwise-men. It is written on every cigarette packet in bold that CIGARETTESMOKING IS INJURIOUS TO HEALTH, still people not only buy them, but also smokethem! Smoking cigarettes is very hazardous to the health of smokers and thehealth of the people around them. Many people die because of inhaling cigarettesmoke every year. Some of the harmful ingredients in cigarette smoke arenicotine, carbon monoxide, and tar. Nicotine is addictive. It is also one ofthe most dangerous chemicals in cigarette tobacco.

Tar contains at least 30 cancer causing irritants. It is amixture of several substances that condense into a sticky substance in thelungs. Some respiratory related diseases that have been linked with smoking arelung cancer, cancer of the larynx, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. The hazardsof these diseases increase with the quantity of cigarettes smoked and thelength of time the habit continues.

Cigarette smoking has disastrous consequences: It damages justabout every organ of the body and leads to the general deterioration of thesmoker's health. Let’s join hands to make the world as much smoking free aspossible.
