Pragya makes a saturated solution of potassium chloride in water at 373 K and leaves the solution to cool at roomtemperature. What would she observe as the solutioncools? Explain. |

Answer» Crystals of KCl will be observed on the edges of the beaker.Explanation:As temperature increases the solubility of a solution increases as the intermolecular distance between solvent particles decreases. So more ions can be accommodated b/w the water molecules. Now when temperature decreases the particles MOVE back closer together due to loss of thermal energy, which causes the distance between the molecules to DECREASE a lot. When this happens the particles move closer and the solubility decreases. So the excess KCl which dissolved at 373K will now be FORCEFULLY pushed out of the solution. For relation between the temperature and solubility REFER the 12th grade ncert textbook (Chemistry part 1- Chapter solutions) Hope you understood my answer. Please leave a thanks. |
