or, x^2 + 6X - 112 = 0

Splitting the middle term here, we have :

x^2 + 14x - 8x - 112 = 0

or, x ( x + 14 ) - 8 ( x + 14 ) = 0

or, ( x + 14 ) (x - 8) = 0

or, x = 8 [ The value x = -14 is rejected SINCE the breadth cannot be a negative quantity)

Thus, length = x + 6 = 14 cm
