Out of C and CO, which is better reducing agent for ZnO? |
|
Answer» The two reduction reactions are : `ZnO(s)+C(s) to Zn(s)+CO(g)` `ZnO(s)+CO(g)to Zn(s)+CO_(2)(g)` In the first case, there is increase in the magnitude of `DeltaS^(@)` while in the second case, it almost remains the same. In other words, `DeltaG^(@)` will have more negative value in the first case when C(s) is a better reducing agent. |
