Name three ores which are concentrated by froth flotation process. What is a depresent ?A. Halide oresB. Phosphate oresC. Native oresD. Sulphide ores

Answer» Correct Answer - d
Metal sulphide ores are concaltrated by flotation , a process that exploits differences in the ability of water and oil to wet surfaces of the mineral and the gangua .In this process , the ore is finely grond to give a thick pulp contitaing `30 - 40%` solides .A small amount of pine on oleic acid or cresylic acid ,which cause frothing (foaming) is added to the pulp .The substance, which is capable of retelling water fron on the surface of mineril and thus promotes attachment of mineral particles to air bubbles is also addedd to the .pulp. This substance is called collector sodium ethyl xanthate.`C_(2)H_(5)OCS_(2) Na` , is commonly used as a collectro in floting copper, lead and nickel sulphideores .
Another substance called activator `(e.g.CuSO_(4))` , which helps in the acvtion of collector can also be added .The entire meterial i.e.,The mixture pulp, frother , and collector is taken in a container and then air is blown .Air bubbles adghere to the mineral particles and make them float in the form of a froth which is collacted , the gangue is wetted by water and sinks
The process of froth flotation is videly employed to concantrate sulphde ores. However , many qaside ores can also be concentrated by this process
