Mention the type of cell division and differentiate between them

Answer»

There are two TYPES of cell division:

i) Mitosis
In this process, the cells are DIVIDED for growth. Each cell called mother cell divides to form two daughter cells. The daughter cells have the same number of CHROMOSOMES as mother cell. This process HELPS in growth and repair of tissues in organisms.

ii) Meiosis
This process involves two consecutive division. In this process, a cell divides to form four NEW cells. The new cells have only half the number of chromosomes than that of the mother cell.
