He sneaked up to his room by using a passkey. Ausable was a clever secret agent. He was very witty and had a presence of mind. He fabricated a story about a\xa0balcony outside the window of his room. He told Max that he had complained to the hotel authorities about the balcony but they hadn\'t taken any action yet. That was\xa0the second time that someone had\xa0entered his room through it. Suddenly someone knocked at the door.\xa0Max got frightened at this. Ausable\xa0again used his wit and told him\xa0that it was the\xa0police as he had asked for more protection for the important paper. Max took the entire story as gospel and\xa0jumped from the window.
