MITOCHONDRION, membrane-bound organelle found in the cytoplasm of ALMOST all eukaryotic cells (cells with clearly defined nuclei), the primary function of which is to generate large quantities of energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATPMitochondria Structure They are made of two membranes. The outer membrane covers the organelle and contains it like a skin. The inner membrane folds over many TIMES and creates layered structures called cristae.
