|
Answer» entific names, of course, difficult to learn, have a number of advantages over the common names----1-All hitherto known animals, PLANTS and microorganism, irrespective of their utility, have been provided with scientific names. This has helped in classification. An animal, a plant or a microorganism without a name cannot be classified.2-A newly discovered animal, plant or bacterium can be described or named.3-Each kind of animal, plant or bacterium is given a single scientific name. This not only minimises the number of names one is required to learn in BIOLOGY, but ALSO eliminates the likely confusion of multiple naming.4-An incorrect or inappropriate name can be easily set right.5-The scientific names are universal, being used all over the world irrespective of the language of the people. A Russian student of biology knows what exactly Oryctolagus cuniculus stands for, and so does a Japanese or a German.6-The scientific names indicate relationship of the species with other placed in the same genus.7-The scientific names are often descriptive, indicating some important characteristic of the organism.8-The scientific names are DERIVED from Latin or Greek. Both of these are dead languages. Hence, there is less possibility of change in the meaning of their words. They have a lot of advantages as they are used as universal and doesn't create a difficulty to other people in DIFFERENT countries |
