A Russian student of biology knows what exactly Oryctolagus cuniculus stands for, and so does a Japanese or a German.6-The scientific names indicate relationship of the species with other placed in the same genus.7-The scientific names are often descriptive, indicating some important characteristic of the organism.8-The scientific names are DERIVED from Latin or Greek. Both of these are dead languages.
