Is women participation a discourse? |
|
Answer» During the early part of ancient Olympics, women were not allowed to witness or compete in games and sports. It was basically considered that women were physically less active than men in all age groups and were under-represented in sports, both in active membership and in management positions. At the same time, women's participation in sports can improve sport, as sport can improve the quality of life. Women are less represented than men in the active membership of sports clubs and a positive discrimination of women in different roles varies widely, but in most cases, men dominate in the total membership, especially in management and administration and various other committees. However, in Modern Olympic Games, no restriction was made for their participation in sports competitions but due consideration was given while assigning athletic events keeping in view anatomical and physiological differences in their physique. The participation of women for the first time in Olympic was in 1900 Paris Olympic in few events, where only 12 women participated but in 2000 Sydney Olympics women participated in almost all events. During the early 1970s, female athletics underwent a dramatic revolution. Demands were made for equality in budget, facilities, equipment, coaching and competitive opportunities for a position in the world of athletics comparable to that enjoyed by the males. No doubt that men's performances are better than women's. Males and females differ in body built, body composition. motor skills and energy system |
