1.

Is "magnetic north" on earth (in the arctic ocean, north of canada) a north or a south magnetic pole? Please explain?

Answer»

According to the convention if a pivotic magnet is ALLOWED to MOVE freely the PART of the magnet pointing TOWARD the North is said to be North pole of the magnet and viceversa. Though it is EXPLAINED in this way North pole of a magnet and the North pole of Earth are unlike poles. And for this reason the North pole of the magnet points toward the unlike pole(North pole of Earth).
