Answer» Folding occurs when Forces on the plates act towards each other, the crust of Earth bends and a fold is created. To illustrate this, place a paper on the table. Put your hands at the extremes of the paper. Now slowly make your hands meet. You will see that the paper in between is forming a mountain. This phenomena occurs between tectonic plates of earth. So folding is compression of tectonic plates due to internal forces of earth, along plate boundaries.Faulting occurs when the crust of the earth cracks due to tension( forces acting opposite to each other). This causes layers to stretch and crack.These form rift valleys. |
