1.

In Fig. 4, DE || BC, BC = 6 cm, DE = 4.5 cm and AE = 3 cm. Find the length of AC.

Answer»
Hi \:  \:  There \\  \\  \\In  \:  \: ABC   , DE \:  ||  \:  BC   \\  \\  \\ By  \: Thales  \:  \: Theorem  \:  \\  \\ \\we \:  \:  obtain ,  \\  \\  \frac{AE \: }{AC \: }   =   \frac{DE \: }{BC \: }  \\  \\  =  \frac{3}{3 + x}  =  \frac{4.5}{6}  \\  \\  = 18 = (3+ x)4.5 \\  \\  =  > 13.5 + 4.5 x= 18 \\  \\   =  > 4.5x = 4.5 \\  \\  =  > x \:  \:  =  \frac{4.5}{4.5 }  \\  \\  =  > x = 1 \\  \\  \\ Hence  \:  \: AC = 3 + x  \:  \:  \\  \\  \:  = 3 + 1 \\  \\  = 4 \: cm \:
