In an experiment, on burning 3.5 Kg of fuel, 70,000 kJ of energy wasproduced. Determine its calorific value. |
Answer» Given:-→Mass or AMOUNT of fuel BURNT =3.5kg →Amount of energy produced = 70000kJ To find:-→Calorific value of the fuel Solution:-We know that:- Calorific value of a fuel :- Amount of energy produced / Amount of fuel burnt = 70000/3.5 = 20000 kJ/kg Thus, calorific value of the fuel is 20000 kJ/kg. Some Extra Information:-Calorific value : It REFERS to the HEAT produced by unit volume of a substance by complete combustion. The efficiency of a fuel or food mainly depends on it's calorific value. If calorific value of a fuel is high, it's efficiency will be also high. S.I. unit : The S.I. unit of calorific value is kJ/kg (Kilojoules-per Kilogram) The calorific values (approximate) of some common fuels are :- • LPG - 55000 kJ/kg • Petrol - 45000 kJ/kg • Diesel - 45000 kJ/kg • Coal - 33000 kJ/kg • Biogas - 40000 kJ/kg • Wood - 22000 kJ/kg |
