Katherine Mansfield has elaborated various human weaknesses beautifully in this story. Rosemary has a car and by introducing the car into the story it is possible that the writer is further highlighting the class difference that exists between Rosemary and those around her. A word of praise for the girl from Philip makes Rosemary jealous. She felt insecure although her husband loved and adored her. Thus jealousy, the universal human feeling turns her into a hard realist. By telling the reader that Rosemary must have the little box of the antique shop, the writer is highlighting the importance of material things to Rosemary.

केथेरीन मेन्जफील्ड ने इस कहानी में कई मानवीय कमजोरियों को सुन्दर ढंग से वर्णित किया है। रोजमेरी के पास कार है और कहानी में कार का उल्लेख करके यह संभव है कि लेखिका ने रोजमेरी व उसके चारों ओर के लोगों के बीच के अन्तर सुस्पष्ट करना चाहा हो। फिलिप की तरफ से उस लड़की के लिये प्रशंसा के शब्द रोजमेरी को ईष्यालू बना देते हैं। वह असुरक्षित महसूस करती है, यद्यपि उसका पति उसे बहुत प्यार व आदर देता है। इस प्रकार ईष्र्या, मानवीय भावना को सार्वभौमिक रूप, उसे एक कठोर यथार्थवादी में बदल देती है। मेन्जफील्ड पाठकों को यह बताकर कि रोजमेरी को प्राचीन वस्तुओं की दुकान वाला छोटा बॉक्स अवश्य चाहिये, सम्भवतः रोजमेरी के लिये भौतिक वस्तुओं का महत्व बढ़ा चढ़ा कर बता रही है।
