Answer» Correct Answer - Option 1 : A

Given:

Mayank doubles the selling price of an item then profit becomes 4 times.

Formula Used:

Profit percentage = {(Selling price – Cost price)/Cost price}×100

Calculation:

Let the initial cost price and selling price be CP, SP.

Let initial profit be P.

As 1st time Profit P = (SP – CP)      ----(1)

When selling price be doubled 2SP

Then profit in 2nd case P = (2SP – CP)      ----(2)

As given profit in 2nd case is 4 times of 1st

⇒ (2SP – CP) = 4(SP – CP)

⇒ 2SP – CP = 4SP – 4CP

⇒ 3CP = 2SP

⇒ SP/CP = 3x/2x

Profit percentage = {(Selling price – Cost price)/Cost price}×100

⇒ The profit % = (3x – 2x)/2x = (x/2x)×100 = 50%

∴ The initial profit % is 50%
