If A and B are two sets that n(A)=2 and n(B)=3 find the no. of relations from A to B

Answer» A relation from a set A to another set B by definition is a subset of the Cartesian product of the two sets A and B i.e.( A x B ) . If A has 2\xa0elements and B has 3\xa0elements then (A x B ) has (2\xa0x 3\xa0) = 6\xa0elements in it.Therefore no. of subsets of (A x B) = 2^(6) = 64 ; that are the required numbers of relations from A to B.
