| Answer» Valency is the combining capacity of an elemenet.FOR EXAMPLE,Oxygen has an atomic number 8.By arranging in shells ,in first shell 2 and in next shell 6,there are 6 electrons in outermost shell.But it needs 8 electrons in its outermost shell to complete its octet.Now oxygen can gain 2 electrons from other element ,so that 6+2=8.Or it can lose 6 elctrons but it is hard for oxygen to lose 6 electrons.HENCE VALENCY OF OXYGEN IS 2. | |
