How does light travels in a straight line only? |

Answer» Light follows “Rectilinear Propagation” and it's WISE question to ask, why? According to scientist Fermat, the light don't need shortest but the quickest path to reach from one point to another. When we take any two points in a vacuum, then what can be the quickest path for a light to travel through? Obviously, it will be a straight line. However, it should be noted that in the explainations I haven't mentioned “shortest path” because it's not necessary that shortest path will be the quickest one! Hence, we conclude that light wants LESS time to COVER a distance and therefore opts quickest path which is a straight line. |
