How does concentrated HNO3 oxidises non metal give example |
|
Answer» Concentrated nitric acid is strong oxidising agent, especially in hot CONDITION. In these acids, the central atoms-nitrogen and sulphur- are in their maximum oxidation states of +5 and +6 respectively. So, their reactions with nonmetals like carbon or sulphur are TYPICAL REDOX reactions in which such moderately electronegative nonmetals are FORCED to behave as reducing agents EXAMPLE C + 4HNO3 = CO2 + 4NO2 + 2H2O :) |
