How did they name it as Dichlorophenyl methane though no methane is present in the compound below?Can anyone explain it clearly? |

Answer» HEY mate! actually it's methane where 2H atoms are replaced by 2Cl atoms .. 2 Cl ...so dichloro. c6H5.....phenyl and MIDDLE C atom...... methane.. here methane acts as parent chain.. phenyl and chlorine are substituents if FUNCTIONAL group (here cl) is directly attach to C-chain containing benzene.. then C-chain is considered as parent chain.. benzene as substituent hope it will help you.. #Phoenix |
