How did they name it as Dichlorophenyl methane though no methane is present in the compound below?Can anyone explain it clearly?

actually it's methane where 2H atoms are replaced by 2Cl atoms ..

2 Cl ...so dichloro.

c6H5.....phenyl

and MIDDLE C atom...... methane..

here methane acts as parent chain..
phenyl and chlorine are substituents

if FUNCTIONAL group (here cl) is directly attach to C-chain containing benzene..

then C-chain is considered as parent chain..

benzene as substituent
