Solution :Buddhism become popular because–
(i) Buddhism was a simple religion. People did not find it.s teachings difficult to follow. On other hand Hinduism was difficult to follow. Many new rituals and CEREMONIES were added to it. Thus, the people began to prefer Buddhism over Hinduism .
(ii) BUDDHA preached his message in the local language of the people which was easy to understand.
(iii) Buddhism did not believe in elaborate ceremonies into which Hinduism had sunk. These ceremonies were very complicated and costly . All these ceremonies led to superstitions and make men turn to other religions for solace.
(iv) Many KINGS had adopted Buddhism and set personal examples for the subjects to follow thereligion.
(v) The Buddhist monks also played a VALUABLE role in POPULARISING the Buddhism.
