The Pope for example claims authority from the Apostle Peter, in whose name he claims to be the big boss of all christians. The Syrian Christians usually reply that St Thomas gave them authority to be their own boss and tell the Pope to mind his own business. This is a never ending struggle for dominance. Just like there is no solid scientific proof that St Thomas came to India, there is no proof that St Peter went to Rome either.
