How can you identify whether the plant is c3 or c4 ? explain/justify |
|
Answer» ⊕In C3 PLANTS, the bundle sheath cells do not contain chloroplasts. In C4 plants, the bundle sheath cells contain chloroplasts. In C3 plants, the carbon dioxide fixation takes place only at one place. In C4 plants, the carbon dioxide fixation takes PLACES twice (one in mesophyll cells, second in bundle sheath cells). If one want to IDENTIFY these plants morphologically, then the most important POINT is the climate or area as C4 plants are grown in hot, dry climates whereas C3 plants are found in cool and wet areas. Rather than morphologically their main characterisation is due to their anatomy i.e. KRANZ anatomy which is observed in C4 plants. |
