The excess current produced is discharged to the ground through the earth wire. This is known as earthing. Thus earthing provides safety in the electrical circuits. In household electrical circuits for the effective functioning of the earth wire, the earthing system should be proper. The pit in which the earth wire is placed should be filled with salt and coal. During summers it is required to wet the places where it is earthed.
