How can a truck driver steer a truck travelling at constant speed such that (i) its acceleration is zero and (ii) magnitude of acceleration is constant ?

Answer»

Solution :(i)For zero acceleration, the driver should steer straight . Here constant SPEED implies that at a particular gear, the accelerator of truck is pressed such that it has ATTAINED a constant speed. Now to maintain zero acceleration after that, steering of the truck should be straight .
(ii) For magnitude of acceleration to be constant , the driver should steer at angle such that the truck follows circular motion . The direction of acceleration changes continously but its magnitude REMAINS constant .
