Q.1 Answer the questions in Breif :-

a. A Plastic Cube is Released in water, will it sink or come to the Surface of water?

Ans- It is decided by a CONCEPT of Buoyancy that whether a SUBSTANCE floats or SINKS in water. Buoyancy or upthurst means the upward force exerted by the liquid on any particular object immersed in it. It depends upon the density of the body.

  • A body with less density than water, or relative density less than 1 will float on water due to greater buoyant force.
  • A body with greater density will sink in water.
  • And a body will density equal density as of water will half submerged or partially submerged (i.e half in water, half in air).

The plastic is the light weight substance and have density less than water, thus it will float on water. This phenomenon has become the biggest reason for ocenic water pollution.

b.) Why do the load carrying heavy Vehicles have Large numbers of wheels?

Ans- The load carrying heavy vehicles have a large weight thus, they exert a high pressure to the ground. This can even break the ROADS and can cause accident, to avoid this ,they have large no. of wheels which increase the surface AREA in contact with the ground, and the weight will be equally distributed and hence reducing pressure. It is because the pressure is inversely proportional to area of contact. This can be better understood by the formula for pressure i.e.

\Large{ \ast{ \boxed{ \purple{ \sf{Pressure =  \frac{Force}{Area}}}}}}

Thus, the load carrying heavy vehicles are provided with large no. of wheels.

c.) How much pressure do we carry on our heads ? why don't we feel it ?

Ans- The atmosphere is around us i.e. the layer of air. As we know that gases also exerts pressure, hence we are carrying the entire atmospheric pressure of 1 atm i.e. 10^5 pascals. But, isn't it strange, that we are not able to feel anything? It is because of the blood that is flowing inside our body also exerts the same pressure in an outward direction and the atmosphere in the inward direction. Thus these pressure balances each other and have no effect on our body.
