| Answer» Helen spend the autumn months with her family at Fern Quarry, fourteen miles from Tuscumbia.Three streams originated from there and flowed down in waterfalls wherever rocks tried to block their way. The area was mountainous and forested and tall trees stood like guards. Helen loved nature, and the various natural smells thrilled her heart. She enjoyed touching the branches and leaves which were shaken by the wind. She gives quite a detailed description of the place.Visitors who came to Fern Quarry often told stories about wildlife and Helen thought these people as great, brave hunters who could frighten wild animals like lions, tigers and bears. One summer, Helen also had her pony there. She called him Black Beauty. He resembled his namesake in every way, from his glossy black coat to the white star on his forehead. Helen spend many of her happiest hours on his back. Helen also had a very dangerous experience there. She along with her sister and Miss Sullivan had gone for a walk. They got late and decided to walk on a railway bridge to reach home quickly. However, they were in danger of being run over by a train passing over the bridge but fortunately saved themselves by climbing down on the crossbraces below the bridge just in time. | |
