Her father was Captain Arthur Henry Keller, a confederate army veteran and a newspaper editor. Her mother was Kate Adams Keller. Helen was a normal child when she was born. She was the first child in the family and was loved very much by her parents. She enjoyed a happy childhood just like any other normal child. Till the time of her illness, she lived in a tiny house with her parents. There was lush greenery all round. Before becoming deaf and blind, Helen remembered broad green fields, a bright sky, trees and flowers.
