One way would be you expand 12 by its smallest factors like 12 =2x 2 x3 And 18 can be written by its smallest factors as 18 =2x3x 3 Now, we in order to find the LCM of 12 and 18 , we need to take the common factors only once(Factors in bold) and also the uncommon ones. So the LCM will be like this =2x3x 2 x 3 = 36. Another way of finding the LCM is as follows: you keep multiplying each number by 2 then 3 and so till reach both resulting in same number. Check the below 12 x 2 = 24; 12 x 3 = 36 18 x 2 = 36 So, you see, we reached at 36 by multiplying just 2 to 18 and which is also a multiple of 12 (multiplied by 3), hence this is the least number which would common multiple to both 12 and 18.
