so ,

area of that square = side *side

                                 = 6*6

                                     = 36m²

now let us divide the figure into 2 rectangles 

LIKE this [ in the photo given below]

now let us find the area of abcd

=>l *b

=>6*2

=>12 m ²

now let us find the area of awxy

=> l *b

=>10 *8

>80 m²

so the area of whole figure

=>area of abcd +awxy

=>12 +80

=>92 m²

now area of shaded ragion

=>area of whole figure  - area of the INSIDE square

=>92 - 36

=> 56 m²
