Answer» Assume 1/x = t , and 1/y = u so, the equation 1 becomes t/2 + u/3 = 2 or, 3t +2u = 12. and 2nd equation is t/3 + u/2 = 13/6 or,2t + 3u = 13 from 2nd equation t = (13-3u)/2putting this in equation 1. 3(13-3u)/2 +2u = 12 => 39/2 -9u/2 +2u = 12 => 5u/2 = 15/2 => u = 15/5 = 5 .. and hence , t = (13-15)/2 = -1 but u = 1/y , so y = 1/5 , and x = 1/t = 1/-1 = -1. so the value of x and y are -1, 1/5. |
