1.

Explain the limitations of Rutherford’s model of atom?

Answer»

According to James Clerk Maxwell’s electromagnetic theory, a charged body in circular motion continuously emits energy as radiations. Electrons which revolve around the nucleus are negatively charged. Hence while electrons revolve around the nucleus, they should emit electromagnetic radiations lose energy and come closer to the nucleus Finally the negatively charged electrons should collapse into the nucleus.

But this does not happen in an atom. It Rutherford’s model failed to explain this.
