Basis of technique :Since DNA fragment are negatively charged, they can be separated by forcing them to move towards the anode under an electric field through a medium of matrix (agarose).

Uses:

(a) The purified DNA fragments obtained by gel electrophoresis.

(b) They are used in DNA fingerprinting.
