Examine the significance of decentralisation ?

Answer» India is a large and diverse country. It is very difficult to control by two tiers of government. Decentralisation is taken away of powers of central govt and state govt and given to local Govt. So by this Decentralisation they can control people. People in local areas have more problems. They know how to find solutions for problems. For this people will take decisions together. This is the important principle of democracy. So Decentralisation will give more importance for democracy.
“Decentralisation”\xa0is a major step to modify the concept of democracy and federalism. It is very significant for all practical aspects.(i) It helps in the settlement of a large number of problems and issues at the local level.(ii) It provides a platform for the direct participation of people in decision making. Hence, inculcates a habit of\xa0“democratic participation.”(iii) In another way decentralisation in the form of “local self government” is the best way to realise principles of Democracy, i.e.,\xa0“Democracy at the grassroots level.”(iv) Thus, decentralisation is rationale for the federal concept.
