Answer» The main pollutants in sewage, industrial wastes and agricultural run off are nitrates and phosphorus. These pollutants stimulates the growth of algae which leads to the depletion of oxygen in water bodies, causes the death of aquatic organisms. Other toxic substances flowing into the lake can kill all the fishes and other animals in the water. Due to the decomposition of these bodies the oxygen level further decreases in the water body Ultimately this leads to the death of the lake.
