Elements and atomic number

Answer» Element: \xa0An element is made up of 3 particles, protons, neutrons and electrons. In the centre of an element there is a nucleus which contains protons and neutrons. Around an element are shells, also known as orbits which contain the electrons in an element. Protons have a positive charge and electrons have a negative charge, although neutrons have no charge at all.Atomic number: \xa0The total number of protons in the nucleus of an atom gives us the atomic number of that atom. It is represented with the letter ‘Z.’ All the atoms of a particular element have the same number of protons, and hence the same atomic number.
