Electronic configuration of Cr and Cu are exceptional bcuz due to partially filled d orbital they need to be stable by taking electron from a orbital and we know half-filled and fully filled orbitals are stable but Scandium's electronic configuration is 1s2,2s2 2p6, 3s2 3p6 ,4s2,3d1 here also d orbital is partially filled then why Scandium's electronic configuration doesn't undergo any change ??,Explain it plzzz. This happens in other cases also then why is it so that only Cu and Cr can take electrons to become half-filled or fully filled but not others like them???

Answer»

D orbital in scandium is not HALF filled.

d orbital can HOLD 10 electrons.d has only 1 ELECTRON so it is not half filled.
