⇒ y = x + 1 ........................(eq 2)

Substituting the value of y in eq. 1

⇒ 3x - 5(x + 1) = -1

⇒ 3x - 5x - 5 = -1

⇒ -2x = 4

⇒ x = -2

⇒ y = x + 1 = -2 + 1 = -1
